New-Pennypack Photo Contest for 2018

Photographers are invited to submit images taken between Dec. 1, 2017 and Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018.

All submitted photos will be judged by a panel of two photography experts who will select 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries in 8 categories. Additional photos in each category will be selected for Honorable Mention.  In addition, Dr. David Robertson, Director of the Trust, will choose the Pennypack Director’s Award.

Awards will be announced at a slideshow in early Dec. 2018 starting at 7:30 pm at the Pennypack Trust's Visitor Center.

During the slideshow each photographer will have the opportunity to comment on one of his/her photos--where taken, why taken, lens used, etc.

SPECIAL: One of our judges, David Harrar, has volunteered to comment on selected photos after the awards. This was done for the first time at the 2017 Slideshow and was very well received by the participants.

1st, 2nd, 3rd place photos will be displayed at either the Orchard Artworks or the Pennypack Nature Center in the Spring of 2019, beginning with a reception to meet the photographers. All photographers entering the contest who are awarded a
1st, 2nd, 3rd place prize will be encouraged to frame and display their winning photos. Details will be available prior to the show. Advice and suggestions for matting and framing will be provided upon request.

The Pennypack Photo Contest was conceived and originated by Jared Alden, who led the contest from its inception in 2010 until 2013. The 2018 Contest builds on that tradition through the contributions of a working group consisting of Fran Brown, Harris Brown, Jim Collins, Peter Gkonos, Ernest Koch, Alison Larsen, David Robertson (Executive Director of the Pennypack Trust) and David Rosenthal, and with input from several other photographers who have participated in past contests.
